The Brazilian Acai Berry

I added an acai berry supplement to my regime. I have been enjoying an acai energizer smoothie from a local juice place where I live but since I am cutting back on my budget, I decided to find a way to reproduce this smoothie at home.
This brought me to begin my research on finding the perfect acai supplement to put into my smoothie. I did not want a pill form because I will try and find any way to not take pills if I don't have to. It's not that I do not like taking pills but if I can get my supplements in a powder or liquid form, that is the way I choose to go. Plus if I can get a powder or liquid form of acai, then I can add it to juices, water or my smoothies whenever I wish.
Okay, I don't know about you but when you type "acai" into a search engine, you will have more than enough to read and many, many different manufacturers producing the acai berry supplement. Let me give you MY criteria that I was using to whittle away many of the different manufacturers:
- Being able to purchase the product in different forms from the same manufacturer. i.e. Pill, Powder, Liquid or Gel
- Certified Kosher was a definite plus to have since the regulations put on food that is Kosher Certified is quite extensive. The word "kosher' is one of Judaism's contributions to the international vocabulary. People of other cultures and languages use the term in its original meaning-denoting that which is proper and meets accepted rules and standards. I have personally witnessed a kosher meal being prepared and down to what utensils can touch what is a priority. Cleanliness and health issues are majorly important.
- I wanted a high ORAC rating (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity). ORAC rating is a laboratory analysis that provides an overall measure of a food's antioxidant activity. The higher the ORAC score, the greater is the food's antioxidant capacity.
- Certified Organic was an option but not necessarily a “must have.”
What Is the Acai Berry?
The Acai Berry, pronounced "ah-sigh-EE", is the high-energy berry of a special Amazon palm tree. Harvested in the rainforests of Brazil. Some people compare the taste of the acai berry to a blend of berries and chocolate. Acai is packed full of antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids.

This is to ensure that you receive only the freshest and highest quality certified organic and Kosher acai fruit products that raise the bar compared to all other acai producing companies.
What Are the Perks & Benefits of the Acai Berry?
Studies have shown that the acai berry is one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world! Sure, there are other antioxidant wellness fruits such as Goji, Noni and Mangosteen; but, they simply do not compare to acai. Unlike acai, they do not contain the essential fatty acids known as Omega 3, 6 and 9. These are the "good" fats of the human body and are very important to your health.
Although results vary from person to person, here are just a few of the reported benefits of consuming the acai berry:
- Reduced pain and soreness
- Better sleep
- Increased energy, vitality, and stamina
- Increased libido
- Improved immune system
- Improved mental focus
What is the ORAC Rating and What is Normal for Your Health?
The average person needs to consume 1,670 ORAC per day. According to the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), the average person consumes 1,000 ORAC daily so you can see that we just are not getting the required daily amount. Researchers in healthy eating at Tufts University, which is a private research university close to Boston, MA, found that in order to provide meaningful antioxidant health benefits in a nutritional supplement, you need at least 2,400 to 3,000 ORAC or oxygen radical absorbance capacity, in your daily diet.
The Amazon Thunder acai suuplements provides a minimum of 500 ORAC in capsule form to 3,300 ORAC per serving in their powder and liquid.
